Have you ever been tempted to take a chance on lady luck by playing online roulette ? Maybe you were not familiar with the online roulette rules so you decided not to play. Fortunately, roulette is relatively easy to learn and playing in the comfort of your own home will allow you to enjoy the excitement of the game without feeling intimidated.

Let’s take a look at the roulette board first. The standard American roulette board, called a layout, has thirty-six numbers plus zero and double zero whereas the European roulette board has a zero only. Since European layouts give the player 2.5% better odds than the American layout, it makes sense to play the European version. The numbers are alternately red and black, but the zeros are green. Along the exterior of the layout, there are options to place bets on groups of numbers having particular attributes. The basic object of the game is to bet on the correct individual number, type of number, or color number that comes in when a small white ball is spun around a roulette wheel and randomly falls.

Before playing roulette, each player will purchase chips. Every player will receive different colored chips. When betting, a player can choose any combination of bets in a round even if another player has chosen to bet on the same grouping or numbers. In roulette, a player can simply put his colored chip on top of another chip to indicate that he is placing the same bet.

A minimum and maximum wager amount will be designated on the roulette table. There may be a separate minimum and maximum bet for the inside and outside of the roulette table. The inside of a roulette table consists of the individual numbers and inside maximum bets are usually lower than outside maximum bets. Additionally, bets placed on the inside of the table may be spread out among individual numbers or split between multiple adjacent numbers.

It is possible to make seven different types of inside bets. A player can bet on a single number, known as a straight bet, by placing a chip directly on a particular number. If a wager on an individual number comes in the player wins 35 to 1. The player can also make a wager by splitting numbers. To do this, the player places a chip on a line intersecting two numbers. If either number comes in, the player receives a 17 to 1 payout. A trio and a street are two types of three number bets. A trio can be made by placing a chip on lines intersecting with three numbers. If a European board is being used, this will require numbers adjacent to zero, if an American board is used double zero can be involved in the three way split. A three number bet will pay 11 to 1. A three number street bet can be made by placing a chip on the edge of a horizontal row. If a player places a chip in the center of four numbers, or at the corner of a number, he can receive a payout of 8 to 1 if any of the four numbers touching the chip come in. 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3 are the only combination that can be used to make a five number bet. A five number bet pays 6 to 1. A player can also make a line bet, or a six number bet, by putting a chip on a line at the edge of two adjacent horizontal rows. A line bet pays 5 to 1.

The outside of the roulette table offers opportunities to bet on a particular group of number. For example, players can choose to bet on a group of numbers designated by color, numerical value, or whether the number is odd or even. In addition, players can choose to bet on numbers that are in a particular column or a particular numerical third. When a player bets on a group of numbers designated on the outside of the table, he must place a minimum bet on this entire group of numbers. Therefore, if the minimum bet is $5.00, and a player wishes to bet on black, he must place at least $5.00 worth of chips on black. However, a player can place more than one minimum bet on the outside of the table.

There are three outside bets which can be made that pay even money. If the player chooses to play a color, an odd or even, or a high or low grouping, the player receives a pay off equal to the initial bet. There are two outside bets which pay 2 to 1. A player can choose to play a particular column of numbers or the first, second, or third dozen numbers. If zero or double zero comes in, the house wins all outside bets.

Once the bets are placed, an individual round of roulette is very simple. A small white ball spins around a roulette wheel. Often bets can continue to be placed before the ball actually lands. When the ball lands on a particular number, the players who have bet on the number or an attribute of that number win. Payouts depend on the type of bet placed and the amount of the wager.

Now the roulette rules are clear, try the game. Relax, enjoy, and have fun.
